Robert Kehner, 84, of Mankato, died Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Hillcrest Health Care Center.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church with Rev. Bart Fletcher officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Monday, October 8 at Landkamer Johnson-Boman Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elim Cemetery in Ottawa, MN, with military honors. Memorials are preferred to Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospice.
Robert was born in Mankato on January 1, 1923 to Henry and Bertha (Otto) Kehner. He attended Mankato public schools and graduated from Mankato High School in 1941. Robert served in the United States Army from 1943-1945 in the European Theatre in Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland Campaigns, receiving the Purple Heart. He married Betty Lloyd in Cleveland on November 29, 1946. Robert attended Mankato State College receiving his B.S. degree in 1949. Robert worked as a City Letter Carrier for the Postal Service retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church, service officer of VFW Post 950, NALC, Mankato, and NARFE. He loved fishing and hiking.
Robert is survived by his children: Barbara Coon (Michael) of Ames, IA, Robert Kehner of Boston, MA, John Kehner (Rosie) Maple Grove; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty in 2003; 3 brothers: George, Henry, Karl: 3 sisters: Edna Holmes, Dorothy Lunak, and Bernita Nelsen.
They lived in Mankato (1946-1987, 2002-2007) and Nevis, MN (1987-2001).
