Lydia T. Balzer
Memorial services for Lydia T. Balzer, 88, Good Samaritan Village, Mountain Lake, formerly of Delft, were held Saturday afternoon, March 25, in the Carson Mennonite Brethren Church, Delft. Interment was in Delft Cemetery. The pastor of the church, the Rev. Jim Weems, was officiant for the services.
Mrs. Balzer died Tuesday afternoon, March 21, in the Good Samaritan Village. She was born in Marion, S.D., on Feb. 20, 1901, the daughter of Tobias and Mary (Thomas) Deckert and attended country school, later receiving her high school education from Freeman Academy, Freeman, S.D. She also attended Tabor College, Hillsboro, Kan.
On Sept. 2, 1925, she married Peter W. Balzer in Silver Lake Mennonite Brethren Church, near Dolton, S.D. Following their marriage, they farmed in Carson Township, Cottonwood County, until 1956, when they moved into Delft. Mr. Balzer died in July 1971. Mrs. Balzer continued to make her home in Delft until October 1985, when she became a member of the Good Samaritan Village family.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Delora and Abe Ewert, Bingham Lake and Berdina and Don Emmert, Sweet Home, Ore.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and three sisters and their husbands, Alma and Paul Becker, and Luella and Ed Tieszen, all of Marion and Amanda and John Ewert, Hillsboro. Her parents, husband, one son and one sister preceded her in death.
Casket bearers at the services were Harry E. Wiens, Melvin Dirks, Harlan Becker, Ken Tieszen, Tommy Thomas and MaLoye Thomas.
