Found unconscious beside the road at Ninetieth and Maple streets, Henry W. Janke, 56, of 2621 1/2 North Sixteenth street, is in critical condition at the county hospital.
Janke, a carpenter, it was said, had a large hole in his skull. Sheriff's deputies believe he might have walked into the side of a truck, and that the driver went on without knowing he had struck anyone. There were no injuries other than the one on the head.
Mrs. Janke told sheriff's deputies her husband disappeared from home when she was away.
