Dorothy Marguerite Grace, 95, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at the Elderwood residence in Hinckley.
Dorothy was born June 3, 1913 at Hibbing to Lemuel and Anna (Sundquist) Irons. At age 3, the family moved to Ogema Township. In 1928, they established the farm in Clover Township. Dorothy attended country school in Ogema Township through grade 8. She then enrolled in the American School taking high school correspondence classes.
On Sept. 21, 1933, she married Stanley "Jack" Grace at the family home in Clover Township. Dorothy and Jack purchased the Irons farmstead in 1943 where they resided until 1978 when they built the "little white house on the hill" just down the road. Dorothy was a farm wife, mother and homemaker. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hinckley, the Clover Friendly Neighbor Club and a 4-H leader. She was named Pine County Outstanding Senior Citizen in 1993. She enjoyed hand crafts including sewing, crocheting, knitting and embroidery. She also enjoyed gardening and gospel music.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jack; her parents, Lem and Anna Irons; an infant son, infant granddaughter, Sheila Turgeon; grandson, Rick Aleckson; infant great-grandson, Zach Brungardt and brothers Lloyd and George Irons. Dorothy is survived by two sons: John (Glennis) Grace of Hinckley and David (Rita) Grace of Bovee; six daughters: Anna Mae Aleckson of Hinckley, Evelyn (Lawrence) Turgeon of Cartersville, Ga., Char (Edward) Nelson of Hinckley, Mary (Leslie Sr.) Garbe of Danbury, Wis., Martha (David) Cook of Roseville and Faith (Richard) Wisland of Minneapolis; her sister Rachael Anderson-Sweeney of Kenniwick, Wash.; 27 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren and 31 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Dorothy were Friday, June 20 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hinckley with Rev. Kevin Carr officiating. Soloists were Howard Gamble and Brianna Turgeon-Schramm. Organist was Janet Sikkink. Casketbearers were her granddaughters: Debbie, Teri, Cathy, Wendy, Linda, Mary, Janet, Janice, Karen, Sue, Tara, Sheila, Rhonda, Pam, Lynn, Dawn, Gina and Valerie. Interment was at Clover Cemetery, Clover Township. Arrangements with Tatting-Methven Funeral Home, Hinckley.
