Hilding S. Persson, 98,. former longtime resident of Togo, passed away on Friday, (February 11, 2011) at the Cook Nursing Home.
He was born in Togo on August 16, 1912, to Andrew and Sarah (Jonsdotter) Persson. He grew up on the family farm, where he lived nearly all of his life. Hilding served in the Army during World War 11. He retired from Itasca County Highway Department, where he worked in general maintenance. Hilding lived a simple, humble, but content lifestyle. He enjoyed time spent in the woods, and cut his own firewood for many years. He moved to Pioneer Apartments in Cook in 2005, had has resided in the Cook Nursing Home the past 2 years.
He is preceded in death by 4 brothers - Albert, Helmer, Arvid and Carl Persson; and 5 sisters – Sally Hellstrom, Bertha Saari, Christina Leding, Anna Nelson and Elfva Gustafson.
Hilding is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, and other special relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Friday (Feb. 18th) at the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. Reuben Rosnau will be the officiant. The casket bearers will be: Dana Persson, Dean Persson, Lloyd Gustafson, Lee Gustafson, Josh Sandberg and Bruce Nelson. Spring interment will be in Carpenter Cemetery in Itasca County.
