Funeral services for Mrs. Maud Swanson were held Aug. 24 from the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria t 2:00 P.M. Rev. Henry Hoover officiated. Mrs. Harold Bradley sang two solos accompanied by Mrs. Otto Knarreborg.
Pallbearers were Howard Johnson, Tom Pennar, Orrin Anderson, Robert Pennar, Jack Geris and Edward Hitserman.
Interment was made in the Carlos cemetery in Carlos township.
Mrs. Maud Brophy Swanson was born in Carlos township, Douglas county, July 31, 1880, the daughter of Joseph and Elmira Pennar, who were pioneer residents of that community.
She was united in marriage to Will Brophy of Alexandria. Two sons were born to this union. One son, Richard (Dick), widely known in the Alexandria community as Admiral Richard Byrd's assistant on his Antarctic expeditions, preceded his mother in death in 1938. In 1935, she was united in marriage to Charles J. Swanson of Pelican Rapids, a long-time employee of the Great Northern Railroad. Mr. Swanson preceded her in death in 1952.
On July 11, 1957, Mrs. Swanson entered the St. Luke's Nursing Home in Alexandria and passed away Aug. 21 at the age of 77 years and 21 days.
Surviving her are one son, Joseph Pennar Brophy, and one granddaughter, Joan Brophy of Santa Ana, Calif., one stepdaughter, Mrs. Richard Pepin of Robbinsdale, Minn., and many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
