Obituary for Edna (Waseca County News, Tues 13 Feb 1996, pg 6A): "EDNA C. BETCHWARS. Edna C Betchwars, age 89, formerly of Waseca, died Thursday, Feb 8, 1996 at St John Lutheran Home in Springfield. Mass of Christian Burial was on Saturday, Feb 10, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev John and the Rev Joe Steinbesser officiated. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery in New Richland following the services. Visitation was Saturday at 8:30 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. Arrangements were completed by the McRaith Funeral Home of Waseca. Casket bearers were Joe Swift, Steve Swift, Michael Knuth, William Kunth, Kay Schuch, Wayne Knuth and Bennie Olsen. Edna Catherine Betchwars, daughter of Walter and Anna (Corbin) Haushahn, was born on Jan 20, 1907 in Washburn, Ill. She graduated from New Richland High School in 1924 as the valedictorian of her class. After completing her course of instruction at Pauls' Hair Academy in Minneapolis, she worked in Valley City, N.D., before returning to New Richland where she had her own shop. She was united in marriage to Joseph Francis Betchwars on Jun 7, 1928, at Sacred Heart Parish House in Waseca. They farmed in Waseca County until 1941, when they moved into the city of Waseca, where Edna worked for Birds Eye (now Dean Foods) and various local companies. She moved to Comfrey in September of 1993. She had been a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca, and its Altar Society and the St Martha's Circle. Most recently she had been a member of St Paul's Catholic Church in Comfrey. She is survived by three daughters, Lucille Casper of Greenwood, S.C.; JoAnn Knuth and her husband Del, of Glencoe; and Jean Swift and her husband, Mark, of Comfrey; by one sister, Rena Munson of Howard Lake; by nine grandchildren; and by 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Betchwars on Oct 8, 1970; by two brothers, and by one sister."
