William Albert, 83, of Caledonia
William "Bill" H. Albert, 83, of Caledonia, died Sunday, July 20, 2008 at Caledonia Care and Rehab.
William Albert was born Feb. 7, 1925 in Forest Lake, Minn., to Henry W. and Ellen (Graf) Albert. He graduated from Loretto High School, Caledonia and attended the University of Minnesota.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy as a pilot during World War II. He married Marvel Ratonde Sept. 15, 1947, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Caledonia.
He and his brother George owned Albert's Grocery Store in Caledonia and Bill worked there from 1949 until his retirement in 1984.
He was a life-long member of the Knights of Columbus, Loveless Eikens American Legion Post 191, VFW Post 3188 and St. Mary's Church.
He is survived by his wife; five children: Jane (Bill) Skowronski, Napa, Calif., William S. (Judy), Caledonia, Sharon (Malcolm) High, Santa Clara, Calif., Julie (Mike) Gerardy, Caledonia, and Amy (Jay) Kamin, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and a brother, George (Virginia) Albert, Caledonia.
He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen, and three sisters, Doris Joyce, Alice Jackson and Mary Ellen Marnach.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 24, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Caledonia. Rev. Gregory Leif will officiate and burial with military honors will be at Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's School Auditorium, where a rosary will be said at 4 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church Thursday.
Memorials are preferred to Holy Family Hall Kitchen or donor's choice.
McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia is assisting the family with arrangements.
