Yohann Simon Beck: Simon's Obit: Died- at the residence of his children, in Vivian,Minn, on October 4th, Simon Beck, of Garnaville township, aged 75 years. Mr. Beck went to Minnesota a few weeks ago for a short visit with his children, and while there was stricken down, never to recover. He came to this country more than 32 years ago, and had a host of friends, who greatly regret to learn of his death. Johann Simon Beck was born in Bernau,Bavaria Germany He was the son of Johann Georg and Anna Marie Beck. He Married Anna Barbara Naser, they had five children, Eva Margaretha ,Johann Frederik, Johann Georg, Anna Barbara, and Johann Christian.

Johann Simon & Anna Barbara Beck came to the United States in 1852 with their children, Frederick, George, Christian, Margaret & Barbara. They came into the port of New Orleans then up the Mississippi to Guttenberg. On the voyage up the Mississippi river, Anna Barbara was taken sick and died near St. Louis, MO.

In 1854 Simon moved his family to a farm by Garnavillo, where he remarried in December 1854.

Frederick Beck enlisted in the Missouri Infantry during the Civil War. After the war he moved his own family (1878) to Waseca County, Minnesota where he died in 1893. He is buried in the Minnesota Lake, MN cemetery.

George Beck served in the Civil War with the 27th IA Infantry. He died of disease in Memphis in February 1863. He's buried in the Mississippi Valley National cemetery. His photo is on the left.

Simon Beck and his 2nd wife had 2 sons, William (b. 1859) and Carl Dietrich (b. 1861). Simon died in 1884.
