Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Calexico for Mary U. Aguilar, 70, of Calexico, who died Tuesday in her home. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m.
Mass will be celebrated at 8 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Calexico. The Rev. Edmundo Zarate will officiate.
Mrs. Aguilar will be buried beside her husband, Agapito V. Aguilar, in Mountain View Cemetery in Calexico.
Mrs. Aguilar was born May 5, 1931, in Indio. She was a lifetime resident of the Imperial Valley.
Mrs. Aguilar worked for Gordon's Laundromat and John Giegrich Bottling Co., both in Calexico. She also was a secretary for 15 years.
In 1998, Mrs. Aguilar was grand marshal of the Calexico Christmas Parade.
Mrs. Aguilar taught special education classes and catechism to children in grades K-8. She was active in senior citizens programs and operated a Christmas program for the homeless and handicapped.
She was a member of De Colores Curdiiliesta and Guardia De Honor at Our Lady of Guadalupe. She also worked the bingo concession at the church for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Agapito V. Aguilar, in February 1961 and her parents, Jesus and Victoria Urena.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Toni and Phillip Gilbert of El Centro and Anna and Daniel Ramirez of Calexico; brother, John Urena of Calexico; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Georgina Urena of Calexico and Jesse and Jane Urena of Baldwin Park; sisters and brothers-in-law, Paula and Gale Ivie, Addie and Fernando Sanudo, Victoria and Leonardo Escalante and Socorro and Juan Martinez, all of Calexico, Evangelina and Mike Perez of Salinas and Angie and Gilbert Gutierrez of El Centro; sister, Helen Smith of San Diego; grandchildren, Ashley and Sarah Gilbert and Lisa Marie Ramirez, all of El Centro, and Presley and Daniel Ramirez Jr., both of Calexico; great-grandchild, Skylar Gilbert Morgan of El Centro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials to Catholic charities, homeless shelters, or the Our Lady of Guadalupe parish building fund, 124 E. 5th St., Calexico, CA 92231.
