Wilfred E. Eckhardt Sr. was born in Boyd, Minnesota July 20, 1907 and fell asleep in the arms of His Lord on November 6, 2009.
He was the vice president of the First State Bank of Storden beginning in 1948 until his retirement in 1971. He had worked in many other banks in southern Minnesota including Hanley Falls, Cottonwood, Clarkfield, Marshall, Wood Lake, Glencoe and Young America. Mr. Eckhardt was proud that his career was interrupted for about two years in 1944 to serve in the army. He was recently honored for being the oldest surviving WW II veteran in Minnesota.
He was married to Bernice Adeline Kirchhof in 1932.
Mr. Eckhardt was well known for his constant, wry, gentle sense of humor and witty, original observations. Among his many activities were his being a scout leader, a legionnaire for 60 years, He loved to garden, fish, follow baseball and sing among other things. He was very loyal to the Storden community and served as a city councilman, and Bethany Lutheran Church.
Mr. Eckhardt lived his Christianity with consideration and forgiveness of others and thankfulness for them and His Lord. His care of his family and unselfishness to his friends will be seriously missed. Many will remember and especially miss his recent singing of "Abide with Me" and other hymns.
He expressed his final wish for his family and friends that God's blessing, protection and peace be with each of you.
