Ruby Hazel Benker, 93, of Buffalo passed away on Monday, March 19, 2007 at Sunrise Memory Care of Buffalo.
Funeral services will be held this Friday, March 23 at 10 a.m. in the Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello. Pastor Josh Nelson will officiate. Interment will be at Bellwood Cemetery of rural Zimmerman. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the chapel. Funeral arrangements are with the Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello.
Ruby was born on August 22, 1913 in Kenesau, NE to Herman and Marie (Roeder) Einspahr. She was baptized at the Wanda Lutheran Church, Kenesau, NE. In 1919, she moved with her family to Amherst, CO. The family settled nine miles north of Holyoke, CO, where Ruby attended Morning View School.
Her parents both died when she was 15 years old in 1928, and she was raised by her sister, Mayme, and her husband, Fred Crawford.
Ruby was married to Albert Benker on November 10, 1941 in Amherst, CO. They celebrated 65 years of marriage in 2006. From 1945 until 1995, they lived in Julesburg, CO, when they moved to Minnesota to be near their son. She loved gardening, cooking and flowers.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband Albert in 2006; and four sisters, Mayme Crawford, Velma Peck, Gladys Wandless, and Bernice Weber. Ruby is survived by: her son Dean and his wife Jodi of Big Lake; three grandchildren, Tammy Swanson, Adam Benker and Aaron Benker; eight great grandchildren; brother Marvin (Helen) Einspahr of Denver, CO; and sister Alvina Folker of North Platte, NE
