Bandow, Florence Helen (Jacobson) Age 92 Died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009. She was born April 27, 1928, in Delhi, MN, daughter of Jacob Albin Jacobson and Vera Helene (Kienzler) Jacobson. She attended Delhi Grammar School and was graduated from Redwood Falls High School. She went to Mankato Teachers' College and was conferred an elementary teaching certificate. She first taught in a rural one-room school near Gibbon, MN.
While at Gibbon, she met Gilbert C. Bandow, whom she married on Dec. 23, 1941 She also taught at Adrian and Worthington, MN. She and her husband owned the Hy-Way Service Oil Co. in Gibbon, where she worked part time for the US Post Office. She was active in her church and served as church organist for 19 years. She gave piano lessons; enjoyed gardening, sewing and playing cards; worked on many community service projects; and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the DAR. After retiring she and her husband moved to St. Paul, where she trained and volunteered to teach English as a Second Language.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert, her parents, and three sisters, Judith Jacobson, Janet Jacobson, and Pauline (Francis) FitzSimmons. She is survived by three daughters, Helen Bandow of St. Paul, Marian (Paul) Gaboriault of Rhinelander, WI, and Louise (Robert) Elliott of Burnsville; three grandchildren, Genevieve Gaboriault (Jon) Nordin, of St. Paul, Blaise Gaboriault, of St. Paul, and Ian Ellliott of Burnsville.; and a sister, Ruth (Robert) Johnson, of Plymouth.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Christ Lutheran Church on Capitol Hill, St. Paul. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. Service at 11:00. Internment will be at Augustana Lutheran Church Cemetery in Gibbon, MN.
