MILBANK — Dorothy Gunther, 86, Milbank, died Friday, March 7, 2008 in Milbank.
Funeral services were held today (Tuesday) in Antelope Valley Reformed Church. The Rev. John Graves officiated. Special music was provided by pianist Jeanette Kruse.
Burial was held at Augusta Cemetery of Marietta. Honorary pallbearers were Vi Kruger, Leila Kruse, Julie Kruse, Sarah Graves, Kathy Limberg, and Jeanette Kruse. Active pallbearers included David Goos, Lowell Tibben, Joel Beninga, Lyndon Limberg, Donald Melcher and Darrel Woolery.
Zahrbock Funeral Chapl, Milbank, was in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy Rae Melcher was born on March 11, 1921 in Brandt to Arthur and Gladys [Barkhuff] Melcher. She was baptized at the Methodist Church in Gary, S.D. She attended school in Madison, graduating from Madison High School in 1940.
She married Elvin Gunther on Feb. 14, 1942 at her parents' farm home in Marietta. Four children were born. After marriage the couple farmed together in Antelope Valley Township from 1942 to 1992. In 2007 she made her home at the Golden Living Home in Milbank.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, raising chickens, activities in church and the Ladies Guild of Antelope Valley Reformed Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elvin Gunther, and a son, Elvin Gunther.
Survivors include her daughters, Marilyn (Gene) Wellnitz of Revillo, Linda Graham of Thornton, Colo., and Debbie (Clifford) Dougherty of Lakeville, Minn.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Vincent Melcher of Loves Park, Ill.., and Merlyn Melcher of Java.
