Marvin David "Benji" Benjamin, 66, of Hoyt Lakes died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at his residence in Hoyt Lakes.
Benji was born Nov. 27, 1942, to Cletus and Valeda (Charland) Benjamin in Malone, N.Y. He graduated from high school in Lyon Mountain, N.Y.
He worked at Reserve Mining Company for eight years. Benji worked as a heavy equipment salesman for several years before becoming an ironworker for Ironworkers Local 512. He retired in 1996. He married Peggy Honkola in August 1997.
He enjoyed playing baseball, fast-pitch softball and playing cards. He enjoyed watching all sports especially baseball and hockey. He was instrumental in forming the Blue-Line Club for his community. Everyone admired how well he could organize things, such as all of his "junk." Everything he owned was organized and labeled. His garage was a hardware store to everyone who knew him. He loved going to garage sales, auctions and loved a bargain.
Benji always tried to be tough on the outside but was soft on the inside. He was a very caring and giving man, always wanting to help out anyone he could. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and sharing the "good stuff" with them that he found at the sales.
He was a member of the Laurentian Motorcyle Club and was an active member of the Retired Ironworker's Union.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Inurnment will be in the Waasa Cemetery
