Paul B. Baer, 63, of Fairbanks, Alaska, formerly of Peoria, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at his residence.
Born Feb. 29, 1936, in Peoria to Edward and Elizabeth Meister Baer, he married Betty Ann O'Connor on July 26, 1963. She survives.
Also surviving are his mother, Lois Baer of Morton; two sons, Paul Jr. and Scot, both of Fairbanks; and two brothers, Dr. Daniel of Tremont and Dr. Philip of Washington.
He was transferred to Alaska in 1960 while in the Army. He later sold real estate in Alaska.
He received his law degree from the University of Michigan in 1968 and worked as an attorney, developer, banker, director of public lands and innkeeper.
In 1976, he was one of the first members elected to the newly unified municipal Assembly in Anchorage, where he served three three-year terms and chaired the panel from 1982 to 1983. He was a volunteer for charitable organizations, including ASSETS and Our Lady of Compassion Care Center in Alaska.
He served as a church elder of University Community Presbyterian Church, where a memorial service was held Sept. 23. Burial was in Northern Lights Memorial Park in Fairbanks. Chapel of Chimes in Fairbanks was in charge of arrangements.
