Lavina Arlene Anderson was born a full-blooded Pit River Indian on March 12, 1933, in Likely, Calif., to Ed and Ethel Hess. She entered the spirit world on March 19, 2010.
In her early years, Lavina grew up in Likely on the family ranch. She had fond memories of working at the Flourney Ranch as a cook's helper when she was a little girl.
Lavina met the love of her life at the Likely Rodeo and later married and moved to Beatty, Ore., where she raised two sons.
She traveled all over the country alongside her husband, Miller Anderson, on the Pro-Rodeo Circuit. She knew all the old rodeo champions; just to name a few of them, the Linderman brothers, Dean Oliver, Larry Mahan and Slim Pickens.
Lavina became active in the Assembly of God Church in Beatty and later helped establish the Klamath Full Gospel Church.
She enjoyed fellowshipping, cooking, traveling with the family, music, dining out, elder trips and going to the senior meal site.
She had a close bond with her beloved sister, Geneva Barlese, and they were rarely seen apart.
Lavina is survived by her sons and family, Herman, Deb and Tammy Anderson of Beatty, Leslie, Makin Qualls, Eddy, Sarah, John, Wyatt and Skilar Anderson; great-grandchildren, Aleekq and Zion, Isaiah and Isaac Anderson, and sister, Geneva Barlese, all of Klamath Falls; nephews, Delwood Wilson, Fernando Herrera and Dean Mcleod; nieces, Elaine Brazzonavich, Nancy Torres, Louanne Anderson, Laurie Leeman, Lea and Melissa Anderson, Jodean Bryant, Oskie Yasana and Rena; great-nephew and great-nieces, Newbie, Angie, Annie, Monica and Morning Wilson; and cousin, Bunny DeGarmo, among many others.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Adam and Maddie Hess; parents, Ed and Ethel Bayley Hess; sister, Della Wilson; uncle, Albert Hess; aunt, Buelah Allen, and nephews, Glen, Eddy, Kenny and Danny Wilson.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at Klamath Full Gospel Church with Marvin Garcia officiating at 3206 Onyx Ave. A traditional wake will begin at sundown at the Modoc Indian Full Gospel Church in Alturas, Calif. Church services will follow at 11 a.m. on Thursday with Johnny Flournoy officiating. Burial will be at the Likely Cemetery in Likely, Calif., with a meal to follow. Arrangements will be handled by Davenport's Chapel of the Good Shepherd.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association .
