Nellie Cronkhite was born in Iowa on Aug. 5, 1884. As a young woman, she moved to Missouri and was married to Isaac Frank Baker in Nevada, Mo., in 1905.
They came to Phillips County in November 1916 and homesteaded in the Bowdoin community. In 1956 they purchased the Pete Kaufman place four and a half miles west of Malta. Mr. Baker died in December 1960 and Mrs. Baker moved to Malta.
Mrs. Baker is survived by two sons, Floyd of Adel, Ore., and Roy of Wisdom; five daughters, Mrs. Roy (Laura) Kindle of Malta, Mrs. Nathan (Cora) French of Wagner, Mrs. William (Lucille) Gallion of Spokane, Wash., Mrs. Carl (Juanita) Chandlund of Nampa, Ida., Mrs. Carol (Della) O'Brien of Morrisonville, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. Miles Henry of Malta; 25 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren.
