Byron Leslie Bebee, 77, a resident of this area for over 60 years, died Monday, May 26, at the Northern Montana Hospital East in Havre. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Little White church with Rev. Thomas C. Anderson officiating. Special music, "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross", was provided by Mrs. Mabael Flesche, organist, and W.W. Southwick, soloist. Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased and burial was in the Malta cemetery with military graveside rites. Byron Bebee was born June 21, 1897, at Red Lodge, son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace R. Bebee. The Bebee and Amos Kelly families came to the Malta area in covered wagons from Hardin in 1913. He worked for George Smith several years farming and breaking horses. Bebee was a World War I veteran and served with the Cavalry at Camp Pendleton, Calif. He married Georgia Ann Ashby at Malta on May 9, 1922. They moved to Red Lodge in 1931 where he worked on the Cooke City highway, returning to Malta in 1936 when he purchased the Robinson ranch at Cree Crossing east of Malta. He had been head blacksmith for Phillips county from 1937 to 1938. Bebee farmed and ranched at Cree Crossing until his retirement in 1956 when he sold his farm and moved to Malta. Since then he had been associated in farming and ranching with his son, Frank, until his death. Bebee in his younger days had been a top cowhand and bronc breaker in the rodeo circuit in the United States amd Canada. Survivors include the widow; four sons, Frank of Malta, Henry and Kenneth of Havre and Gary of Livingston; four daughters, Mrs. Orphenia Megenity of Othello, Wash., Mrs. Ray (Dorothy) Nitz and Mrs. Vern (Lorene) Krause of Havre and Mrs. Robert (Lois) Steele of Chewelah, Wash., a brother, Bethuel R. Bebee of Missoula; 26 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
