Norris Dale Allen
‎ ‎ ‎ Norris Dale Allen, 88, Lt Col USMC (Ret), died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at his home surrounded by his family.
‎ ‎ ‎ Norris was born Jan. 3, 1916, in Roswell, Idaho, to Roy W. and Ruth Campbell Allen. Norris attended school in Roswell and Boise, returning to Roswell to graduate from high school. He attended Boise Junior College until the start of WWII, when he enlisted in the USMC and fought in the South Pacific. After the war he attended OCS and received his commission as a 2nd Lt. During his career, he and his family lived in Washington, D.C., Virginia, Georgia, Hawaii and California. He served overseas in Japan during the Korean War, and in Okinawa during the Vietnamese War. He retired from the USMC in 1968 after 28 years of service to his country.
‎ ‎ ‎ The family returned to Idaho, and Norris began a second career with the Ore-Ida Foods division of HJ Heinz. He retired from Heinz in 1979. After retirement, he and Connie made their home in Meridian, and spent time fishing and touring the Northwest. Dale was an avid gardener and was particularly proud of his tomatoes and his roses. He loved auctions and woodworking, fishing and grandchildren, (not necessarily in that order!) and was a great-grandpa of eight.
‎ ‎ ‎ He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Constance; his daughters Diane (Corky), Shelley, son-in-law Kent, (his partner-in-crime) and his grandchildren: Connie, Amie, Christine, Bryson, Kameron, John (Lisa), Phillip (Lacey) Gregory, Sarah and Emily.
‎ ‎ ‎ He was preceded in death by his son, Steven; his grandson, Allen; and great-granddaughter, Victoria. He will be sorely missed by all!
‎ ‎ ‎ The family wishes to thank Dr. Sharon Oster, Jodie and Marilyn from Life's Doors Hospice, and especially his friend and personal attendant Evan Green for their special care of Norris during his last days.
‎ ‎ ‎ Services for Norris Allen will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N. Midland Blvd., Nampa. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service for family and friends. Interment will be in Roswell, with full military honors.
