Harry Adams Fatally Hurt In Car Crash

Ada County Coroner Clyde Summers announced Thursday night an inquest will be held today at 2 p.m. into the death of 15-year-old Harry Adams of Boise, fatally injured Wednesday night in an automobile mishap near Meridian.

Crushed Against Car

Young Adams died in a Boise hospital of injuries suffered when he was crushed against the rear of an automobile parked on U.S. Highway 30 not far from Meridian.

With his brothers, Dee, 26, and Harvey, he was attempting to siphon gasoline from the tank of their stalled machine in order to place it directly into the motor.

A car which Sheriff Don Headrick of Ada County said was driven by Albert Lee, 58, of Nampa, crashed into the Adams car, striking Harry Adams. The others leaped clear. Lee took the injured boy to the hospital.

Speed Blamed For Fatality

A jury called by Ada County Coroner Clyde Summers blamed driving at too high a rate of speed for the death of Harry Adams 15-year-old Boise youth fatally injured Wednesday night.

Brothers of the victim expressed the wish at the inquest Friday that the driver of the death car not be prosecuted.

Adams was struck, while siphoning gasoline from the rear of a parked automobile, by a car driven by Albert Lee of Nampa, 58, former state director of public assistance and former Canyon County commissioner.

Lee told Sheriff Don Headrick he was blinded by lights of an oncoming automobile.

The verdict read: "The jury finds deceased came to his death by means of an automobile driven by Albert Lee on Highway 30 in the vicinity of Meridian and that the said Albert Lee was driving at a rate of speed too high for him to properly control his machine in time to prevent a collision."

Kenneth O'Leary, Ada County prosecutor, said he was investigating the case.

Funeral services for young Adams will be held Sunday at 2 p.m., in the Methodist Church at Meridian. The Rev. W. J. Luscombe will officiate and burial will be in the Meridian Cemetery. The body is at Robison Mortuary at Meridian.
