William Eldtridge Atchison, age 81, b 23 July 1866, retired Hall District farmer died, 22 Sep 1947, at his home, 115 Jefferson St. A native of Galesburg, Ill. Mr. Atchison had been a Pajaro Valley resident for 54 years. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ethel L. Atchison; a son, Fred of Watsonville; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Davis of Gerlaw, Ill and Mrs. Minnie Walls of Galesburg, Ill.; a niece, Mrs. Don Mahan of San Francisco, CA and a nephew Bill Hambey of Wantsonvile; a brother in law Eugene Hambey of Watsonville.
William Atchison left the large farm that he had grown up on in Illinois and came west to settle in Prunedale where he was a blacksmith at the time he met Ethel Hambey. They were married, 3 Dec 1896, in the William Hambey home in San Miguel Canyon. Will became a partner with Gene Hambey in farming operations. There partnership ended in 1935 when they sold off their equipment and Will commenced working for the O.O. Eaton lettuce packing shed on the San Juan Road. The Atchisons had settled in Watsonvile sometime after 1910 first living in a rented house on Alexander Street until they purchaed their home on 115 Jefferson Street in 1918
