Pioneer Woman
Passes Away

Mrs. Caroline Adams
Dies After a Long
Illness.

After lying at the point of death for some days past, Mrs. Caroline Adams, one of Humboldt’s pioneer women, breathed her last at the old Adams home on the hill. Friday noon, surrounded by the surviving members of her family.

The subject of this sketch was born in Crawford County, Ind. On April 12th, 1839, and crossed the plains with her parents, Mr. And Mrs. Thomas Armstrong in 1852, coming first to Shasta County where they remained but a few months. The family then came direct to Arcata where they located, and built the Armstrong home on the hill, which is among the first houses built in town. Where both parents spent their remaining days. On April 22nd, 1859, she was married to Barry M. Adams in the old home in Arcata, and the couple took their residence in Eureka for the next ten years, where Mr. Adams was engaged in business. During this time five children were born to the couple as follows: Sinclair, who was drowned in the bay when five years of age, Quincy A. who was killed in the woods a few weeks ago, Mrs. Mary Minor of Glendale, Mrs. Emma Wible of Arcata, and Barry M. Adams of Eureka. The only other surviving relative is a sister, Mrs. Amanda Myers of Arcata. Mr. Adams died in Arcata on Sept. 22, 1888.

Mrs. Adams was a pioneer woman of Christian attributes, being a life long member of the Presbyterian church of Arcata, and was known as a devoted mother, a kind and thoughtful neighbor, and a faithful friend. She was a woman of sunny, hopeful disposition, and it was the delight of many to visit beneath her hospitable roof.

The funeral will take place from the family residence Sunday afternoon at two o’clock p.m.

Arcata, Humboldt Co., California, Saturday, September 24, 1904.
