CYRUS CARPENTER ANSWERS THE CALL
Cyrus Carpenter, the aged Stanislaus pioneer whose fatal illness was reported in these columns a short time ago, passed away at 10 o'clock Thursday night at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Bert Ebe of near Vernalis. Death was the result of a paralytic stroke occurring at the first of the week. Mr. Carpenter was eighty-five years old and the anniversary of his birth being July 12th.
The deceased had been a resident of this county for over thirty years, coming here from Michigan and residing on the West Side, farming for many years near Grayson. He was a worthy gentleman of a most kindly disposition and his geniality and honesty endeared him to all who knew him. He lived in Modesto for some time and made many friends here who will sincerely mourn his demise. He leaves a brother and sister in Michigan and is survived by a son, George T. Carpenter, of this city and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at Grayson at noon today, the remains being placed in the Grayson cemetery by those of his wife who preceded him over the divide.
The above obituary is due to the unending work of Jody Pl- Many of the burials in this cemetery that do not have a picture taken are of burials she found that do not have stones.
