"Gonzales Boy Accidentally Killed
Young Albert Alviso's Life Ended By a Bullet From Revolver on Ranch Near Bakersfield
Albert Alviso, eldest son of Mrs. Bessie Alviso and the late Frank Alviso, met his death in a rather mysterious manner on Friday morning of last week. The young lad was employed on a ranch near Bakersfield owned by a man named Castro. He had arisen at his usual time that morning and had gone out to do the chores about the place. When this work was done he washed and then went into his room near the kitchen to comb his hair. Shortly after, Mrs. Castro, the rancher's wife, heard a pistol shot and, rushing into the room, found the boy lying on the floor where he had fallen. He had died instantly from a bullet over the right eye.
The Coroner of Kern county was at once summoned and held an inquest at which it was found that the young man was in good health and spirits that morning and was not subject to melancholy. They returned a verdict of accidental death.
Mrs. Alviso has been exceedingly unfortunate of late, her husband died on July 1st, a 13 year-old daughter, Lucretia, on July 28th and Albert, on October 3d--three deaths in one family within less than three months.
Albert Alviso was a native of Gonzales, aged 15 years. The remains were brought to Gonzales by his mother, arriving on the 12 m. train Tuesday and were taken to the Garcia residence on Sixth street, now occupied by Miss Smith. From that place the funeral was held Wednesday morning, at 10 o'clock, thence to St. Theodore's Catholic Church, where mass was said by Rev. Father P. A. Grammen.
The interment was in the Catholic portion of the Gonzales cemetery."
