Maria Furtado Amaral, a resident of Gonzales since 1971, passed away Feb. 1. She was 83. She was born in San Miguel, Azores, Portugal on Oct. 24, 1924.
She is the beloved wife of the late Angelo Amaral; loving mother of Edward Amaral, John Amaral, George Amaral, Manuel Amaral, Carlos Amaral, Joe Amaral and the late Dennis Amaral; devoted grandmother of 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and dear sister of Deolinda George, Rosie Almada, Alexandra Silva, Beattrice Izodoro, Almerinda Canario and David Mederos.
Maria was a member of St. Theodore's Catholic Church and the Senior Group of Gonzales. She was a dedicated homemaker, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, loved Jesus, flowers and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends and family were invited to attend a Rosary on Monday, Feb. 4 at St. Theodore's Catholic Church, 116 S. Belden in Gonzales. A Funeral Mass was held at the church on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 10:00 a.m. Visiting hours were held Monday, Feb. 4 at Whitehurst Muller Funeral Chapel, 41 E. Alisal St, in Salinas, Internment followed the Funeral Mass at Gonzales District Cemetery in Gonzales. Arrangements by Whitehurst Muller Funeral Services
