A graduate of Oklahoma College for Women and of the University of Oklahoma, she was a special education teacher, then worked in special education administration. Betty often went the extra mile to advocate for underprivileged children and teens. She served on the Louisiana Governor’s Advisory Committee for the Education of Handicapped Children.

Mama created “Camp Betty” for her grandchildren, which delighted them throughout their childhoods. She was an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international honorary organization of women educators, and Quota Club, while living in Bossier City. After retiring, she moved to Edmond, Okla., and then to Dallas in 2003.
