Nelson grew up in Shirley and graduated from Greenville High School in 1958 and later attended Husson College, studying in the field of education. Nelson was known for his sense of humor and also enjoyed a variety of hobbies including cooking, collecting sports memorabilia, playing Texas Hold-em poker and rug hooking. Nelson rode his motorcycle across the U.S. and Canada, compiling an extensive photo journal of his trip. Before his retirement, Nelson worked at Moosehead Manufacturing, Monson; as a paralegal in Brewer; an associate at Ames; and was well known as a seller and trader of sports cards on ebay. Nelson loved all animals, domestic and wild. He spent many years spoiling his cat, Satan, who died several years ago. He then rescued an Amazon parrot named Oz and an unbelievable relationship was formed.
Nelson is survived by his sons, Nelson B. Beckwith Jr. of Somerville, Mass., and Daniel E. Beckwith of Winthrop; and granddaughter, Kayla Hutchins-Beckwith of Randolph. He will be sadly missed by his sister, Patricia Mace and husband, Ronald, of Shirley; brother, Gerald M. Beckwith Jr. and wife, Patricia, of Hampden; four nephews and three nieces. He will also be missed by his friends at Bradford Commons and throughout the community. Nelson was predeceased by his sister, Mary Carlene Downing; and niece, Alisa M. Beckwith.
There will be a private graveside service at Greenville Cemetery where he will be laid to rest in the family lot.
