SALLY ANN CANFIELD-COUP Sally Coup‚ passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Dec. 27, 2015. She was 81 years young. Born May 27, 1934, Sally was the daughter of Ord and Ann Canfield, a pioneering Chico family, and a lifelong Chico resident. She was raised on the family farm, "The Ranch," out on West Sacramento Ave. She was an outstanding athlete, attending Notre Dame Elementary and Chico High School. She had an amazing zest for life, always keeping herself busy because there was "so much to do!" She lived on and maintained 6 acres in Forest Ranch, including cutting her own firewood, and she always had a pack of matches and rake near by to clear all those leaves and pine needles for "fire safety." Sally always had a flair for her own style. She was an artist in numerous mediums, was an avid art collector, admirer, and supporter, and could see beauty in everything. She will be remembered for her unique embellished cards and "earthquake" birthday cakes. A member and former president of the Chico Chapter of the California Federation of Republican Women, Sally was often the highlight of the annual fashion show. She was a staunch supporter of our military troops and a true patriot. She loved animals, nature, travel, music and dancing. But most of all, her family. Her sense of humor, laughter, and quick wit brought joy to everyone she met. Her smile could light up a room, and she had the ability to make people feel comfortable, from the waitress at the diner to the Speaker of the House. She was a mother to many, with a large extended family, and never met a stranger. Sally was preceded in death by her husband of 19 years, Bill Coupe, his son, Bruce, her siblings, Marleen Morgan and Jim Canfield, and her granddaughter, Grace. She is survived by her children Tanny Johnson, Glen (Stacy) Johnson, Laurie (Frank Barbour) Johnson, and Jan (Shawn) Johnson-Awalt. She was "Grambo" to her grandsons Sam, Joe, and Luke. She is also survived by her sister, Ginny (Dennis) Ragain, sister-in-law Roxanne Canfield, and was a beloved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews; Bill's children Cathy (Jim) Lynch and Rosa Coupe and their families. She will be deeply missed by all, including her close group of lifelong friends, Jo Ann, Elva, Dawn, and Donna. A celebration of life will take place on her birthday, Memorial Day weekend.
