John A. Adams
John A. Adams, 94, of Middlebourne, departed this life Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, in Wetzel County Hospital, New Martinsville.

He was born June 16, 1908, at Iuka, W.Va., a son of the late Mart and Belle O'Callahan Adams. He was an educator, teacher, and principal in Tyler County for 44 years. He served as principal at Ellsworth Grade School in Middlebourne for 18 years, preceding his retirement in 1971. He was a graduate of Salem College and West Virginia University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Middlebourne Library Board, Tyler County Retired Teachers Association, and a member of the Middlebourne United Methodist Church.

He is survived by a sister, Freda Thompson of St. Albans; two nephews, Bob Watkins of Lithopolis, Ohio, and Norman Umpleby of Tampa, Fla.; three nieces, Connie Caldwell of Celebration, Fla, Sandy Mann of St. Albans, and Anna Jane McClure of Alza, Okla.; special friends Michael and Norma and Todd Smith of Sistersville and Tim Smith of Middlebourne.

He was preceded in death by his wife Velva Garrett Adams in 1976; three sisters, Iva Watkins, Virginia Dunkley and Inest Umpbleby.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Furbee Funeral Home, Middlebourne, with Evon Heintzman officiating. Interment in Middlebourne Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
