Death of F.C. Andrew—Mr. F. C. Andrew, an old pioneer of Stockton, having made this city his home since 1849, died at the Russ House, in San Francisco, on Saturday afternoon. His remains will be brought to this city for interment. The funeral services will be held at the Presbyterian Church on Wednesday next. Mr. Andrews has held many offices of honor and trust. From 1850 to 1852 was Harbor Master of the city, and in later years has been Deputy County Treasurer and Treasurer of the Insane Asylum, which office, he resigned a few weeks prior to his death. There has been no man in our city who has made more friends and who was more respected than the deceased, having identified himself in earlier years with the various charitable institutions of our city, ever ready to give to the needy and assist those who may have required a friend in the time of need. Mr. Andrew was kind and quiet in his disposition, and his acts and generosities were always done in an un-ostentatious manner. As a Mason he was one of the first to commence their organization in this city, and had reached an elevated position in the fraternity; this also could be said of him in regard to the Odd Fellows' Society. As a fireman, he was a member of the first company ever organized in this city, and while in health always took an active part, having been for some years Secretary of his company and Secretary of the Board of Delegates. Our community cannot but feel his loss, and the gap made by his death will be hard to fill. The news of his death has cast a gloom upon the city, and sadness rests upon the countenances of those who knew him but to love him. May we emulate his charisma and keep him in our memories.
