Lam Choi Ng
Oct. 8, 1906 — Feb. 8, 2005
Services will be today for Lam Choi Ng, 99, who died Feb. 8 surrounded by her family at her Tracy home.
Born in the Xinhui province of Guangdong in China, Mrs. Ng moved to Tracy in 1978, where she quickly settled into small-town life. She was often seen walking her grandkids to school in the mornings.
She was a homemaker, and a compassionate mother and grandmother who loved to take care of her family. She enjoyed shopping with friends in Chinatown and cooking delicious traditional Chinese treats for her family and friends. At only 4-feet-9-inches tall, her personality far exceeded her height.
"Grandma" spent hours relaying stories to her grandchildren about her childhood and life as a widowed mother in the province of Taishan. Mrs. Ng was the youngest of six siblings who never had the opportunity to go to school but always stressed the importance of education to those around her. It was always her dream that her children and grandchildren attend college.
Mrs. Ng is survived by her son, Ron Kin-Yu Ng, and his wife, Mamie, of Tracy; a daughter, Yan Chuen Lam, and her husband, Andres, of New York City; and six grandchildren, Roland, Ramford, Rita, Ruby and Ryan Ng, all of Tracy, and Angel Lam of New York. She was preceded in death by her husband, Angel Ng, who died in 1956.
Today's graveside services will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Chinese Cemetery on West Matthews Road off of Interstate 5 in French Camp.
Memorial contributions in Mrs. Ng's name may be sent to a fund that will be used to sponsor scholarships in Taishan. Checks for the scholarship fund may be made out in the care of her son at 1225 Constitution Way, Tracy 95376.
