Geo. Barceloux Passes Away At Home
Death came unexpectedly early this morning to George A. Barceloux, prominent pioneer of the Land of Orland. Though Mr. Barceloux had been in ill health for a number of years he appeared to be much improved, coming home recently from a hospital in the Marin section only a few days ago. Yesterday he was feeling so much better that he was able to be up town for a short time visiting with old friends, and last evening he appeared to be in better health than in a number of weeks. Early this morning, he was stricken with an attack and died shortly after two-thirty at his home south of Orland.
George A. Barceloux, son of a pioneer family of the Willows section, early in life became identified with Orland and the growth of this community for years was intimately tied up with the business activities of Mr. Barceloux.
Mr. Barceloux was president of the Bank of Orland for many years, later becoming manager of the local branch when the Bank of Orland was taken over by the Bank of America. When that bank absorbed the First National Bank, in 1932, Mr. Barceloux became co-manager of the local branch, later retiring from active business life.
Mr. Barceloux is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma Barceloux; and five sons; Clement of Lower Lake; Leo, Reeve and Melvin of Orland, and Edgar, of Lower Lake. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Cora Gelinas, of Sacramento.
George Albert Barceloux was born in Willows on April 6, 1877, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Barceloux, pioneer residents of Glenn county. In 1907 he came to Orland and became affiliated with the Bank of Orland, holding the position as president for many years. He was an active member of the Chico Lodge of B.P.O.E.
Requiem high mass will be said Saturday morning at nine at the Sweet Chapel by Rev. Father Dosch, with interment in the Orland Catholic Cemetery. Rosary will be held at the Sweet Chapel Friday night at 8:15. - Transcribed by E.
