Donald Welton Biller, 78, of Lost City, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Biller was born July 31, 1931, at Lost City, the son of the late Glenn and Bessie Seldon Biller.

He was a graduate of Mathias High School and a life-long farmer. Mr. Biller was a member and trustee of Garretts Chapel United Methodist Church in Mathias. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of Lost River Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7780. He served on the board of directors of Summit Community Bank for 34 years and he served as a director on the Farm Credit Board for many years. He was a past president of the West Virginia Poultry Association and a past recipient of the Outstanding Turkey Grower of the Year award. He was a supervisor with the Potomac Valley Conservation District for 42 years, being instrumental in many watershed projects within the area. He was a member of the board of directors of the Mathias Community Center and served on the Farmland Preservation Board in Hardy County. He was a charter member of the Mathias Ruritan Club and on April 10, was awarded the Tom Downing Award, the highest honor bestowed by Ruritan International, for his outstanding record of service to the community. He was also a charter member of both Mathias Fire Co. and the Mathias Rescue Squad.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 41 years, Nellie Woerner Biller in 1998; and one sister, Doreen Strawderman.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Howard Krauskopf of Mathias,; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald William "Bill" and Kelly Hott Biller of Lost River; and two grandchildren, Dane Biller of Morgantown and Emily Biller of Lost River.

On Jan. 28, 2006, he married Hazel Canoles Matthews, who survives.

He is also survived by a stepdaughter, Sara Ring and her husband, Rodney, of Shepherdstown and their children, Jacob, Brad, Valerie and Elisa. Also surviving is one sister, Betty Jane May of Bergton, Va.; and one brother, Delmar Biller of Hyndman, Pa.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, at Garretts Chapel United Methodist Church in Mathias with Pastor Debbie Shreve officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Mathias. Military honors will be accorded by the Moorefield Honor Guard and the U.S. Army. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at McKee Funeral Home in Baker.
