Earl L. Alexander passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012 at the University of Utah Medical Center following surgery.
He was born Aug. 31, 1926, in Castle Gate, Carbon County, Utah, to Marion E. and Velora Hyatt Alexander. He was the fifth child of eight children and was raised in Roosevelt, Utah.

Earl married Leah R. Chivers on July 31, 1946, in Vernal. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on Oct. 5, 1964.

He began his married life working for Safeway where he became assistant manager. He later went to work for Chevron USA where he retired after 27 years. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in various ward callings including a member of the Vernal Third Ward Bishopric, stake and ward missionary, elder's quorum president, high priest group leader and a dedicated home teacher. He was also called to be an ordinance worker in the Vernal Temple. Earl and Leah served a LDS mission in the Missouri St. Louis mission.

Earl loved fishing, hunting, camping and spending time with his family. He was famous for the garden he raised.

Earl is survived by his wife, Leah; daughters Christine (Blaine) Colton, South Jordan; Nancy (Lowell) Aycock, Texas; son Michael (Kathy) Alexander of Vernal; grandchildren Brian (Merradee) Alexander, Russell (Jennifer) Alexander, Tracey (Devin) Batty, Stacie (Paul) Tew, Sean (Susan) Colton, Anthony (Sue) Colton, Kelly Jensen, Jason Aycock, Jenny (Mike) Hardy, Chelsey (Conor) Blackburn and Madison Aycock. He is also survived by his brother Robert Gale (Sharon) of Texas. He was also proud of having 21 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Freeman Whatcott, Don Whatcott, Kay Alexander, Glen Alexander and David Alexander; a sister, Colleen Alexander Nickell; and granddaughters, Nancy Ann and Nikki Lee Aycock.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, Aug. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Ashley Stake Center on 475 West 100 South. Viewing will be held from 6 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary and one hour prior to services at the chapel. Burial will be at the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
