Our beloved father and grandfather Fred Abel passed away peacefully at Logan Regional Hospital surrounded by his family on Wednesday, November 4, 2009.
Fred was born on August 19, 1932 to Thomas Ammon and Frances Brook Abel. He grew up in Elwood, UT and attended Bear River High School.
Fred joined the Army National Guard and retired after 32 years. While in the Guard, he went on drills and summer camps to many places and repaired the BIG trucks.
He worked at Joe's Auto Repair where he met his wife, Lila Marie Kemp. They were married in the Logan LDS Temple on March 5, 1954. They had a wonderful life together until she passed away in 2003. Now they are together for eternity.
Fred enjoyed camping with his family, hunting and joining his friends at R&G's Drive-In.
He was a member of the LDS Church and enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts. Fred was a volunteer firefighter for 30 years and loved serving others. After retiring he enjoyed woodworking and being a jack- of-all-trades for others.
Fred is survived by 7 children: Dixie (Jay) Bassett, Smithfield; Christine Abel, Smithfield; Barbara Rogers, Smithfield; Rodney Abel, Logan; Todd (Kathi) Abel, Draper; Trudi (Jim) Low, North Logan; Eric (TrinaDee) Abel, Smithfield, 31 grandchildren (with one more on the way) and 22 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 3 sisters: Edith, Erma, and Jean; and 4 brothers: Ernest, Roy, Ralph and Kenneth.

Dad is loved by many and will be greatly missed. He is now with his eternal mate and love, who we all love. We love you Dad. Enjoy your new life with Mom.
