He was the son of August Aberle and Lena Menold Aberle. He married Helen Rose Peterson on March 12, 1947, in Las Vegas. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
He served in the Army Air Forces during World War II.
He worked for Geneva Steel for 33 years. Vernon served on the board of directors for the Hutchings Museum, served as a notary public for the state of Utah, earned his pilot's license and served as the neighborhood income tax preparer and loved to play baseball.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Aberle; three daughters, Penny (Wesley) Peterson, Lena (R.B.) Pennington and Dixie (Phillip) Grace; three brothers, Emil (Wilma) Aberle, Walter (Vera) Aberle and Ernie (Frieda) Aberle; faithful companion, Rocky; and his devoted neighbor, Stephen Zimmerman.
He also was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Vernon August Aberle Jr.
