Obituary Transcribe:

Earl Vernon Acker Jr 1-28-1922 - 10-13-2011 Of Tacoma, WA passed away peacefully on October 13, 2011 at Tacoma Lutheran Home.

He was born on January 28,1922 in Seattle, WA to Earl and Clarice Acker.

Earl graduated in 1939 from Stadium HS in Tacoma and went on to graduate from the University of Washington School of Pharmacy in 1949.

He proudly served in the US Coast Guard during WWII from 1942 to 1946 as an electrician.

His pharmacy career spanned forty years and he was owner of Proctor Pharmacy until 1983. His father, also a pharmacist, owned the store for many years prior to that. While in the Coast Guard, stationed in New Haven, CN he met his first wife Linda.

They settled in Tacoma, WA and had a daughter, Jean W. Pardo, and two sons, Robert D. Acker, and Randle L Acker.

The second part of Earl's life began when he met and married Carol Wahlund. They had the most amazing marriage, evident by all who knew them. They brought out the best in each other.

After twenty-eight wonderful years Carol lost her battle with breast cancer in May of 2001. Earl had been waiting ever since to once again be with his beloved wife.

His quiet strength, never ending kindness, stoic demeanor, and unassuming manner were attributes everyone admired. Earl's 'famous' dry humor, which often caught people off guard, endeared family and friends alike. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, cooking (his soups were famous), and watercolor painting.

He attended Bethany Presbyterian Church for many years where he participated in plays and had been a Deacon. He also taught reading to underprivileged children.

Earl was an unparalleled father, friend, role model, and mentor to daughter Jean and step-son Charlie Barnett. He was a very special Grandpa and an outstanding role model to grandchildren Jonathan & Jennifer Pardo, and granddaughter Heidi Armstrong. Sincere gratitude to step-son Charlie Barnett for being the most amazing step-son Earl could ever have. Thank you, Charlie. Also, sincere gratitude to special long time family friend Marge Cox for the selfless loving care she gave to Earl. And lastly, special gratitude to the nurses DeAnna, Lorry, Sheri, Dee, Meagan, Debbie, Nelli, Nicole, Portia, Mary, Ida, and Glory at the Tacoma Lutheran Home for their personal attention and excellent care provided for Earl. Earl is survived by his sister JoAnn Davis, daughter Jean Pardo, step-son Charlie Barnett, sons Robert Acker and Randy Acker, grandchildren Jonathan & Jennifer Pardo, Heidi Armstrong and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private family service to honor Earl's life will be held at the New Tacoma Cemetery. Remembrances should be made to New Tacoma Funeral Home and donations may be made to the American Cancer Society
