|Birth: ||Mar. 29, 1890|
|Death: ||Nov. 3, 1949|
Joseph was born to Mary (Morf) and Walter Alden, he had eleven siblings. He was the oldest of the seven children who survived to adulthood.
Joseph was born in Washington but by 1900 the family was living in Montana. Joseph, along with Kate and Helen, were pupils at Ursuline Convent in Cascade; while Mary and Walter along with the younger children, Gertrude, Milton and Walter were living in Boulder. Joseph attended school and completed the 8th grade.
In 1910 Joseph worked as a Conductor on the Railroad, he and his father were recorded in the 1910 Census twice. Once at their home in Washington and again in Lyle Gap, Oregon; I surmise that they split their time due to their employment by the railroad.
March 21, 1912 Joseph married Margaret H. Lewis at St. Thomas Church in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; both he and his bride were from Washington, him from Spokane and her from Seattle. No one in the family seems to know for sure, but it's possible that a child resulted from this marriage.
World War I came and Joseph was inducted into the Armed Services on June 28, 1918 and served overseas from September 1918 to June 1919. He was honorably discharged as a Private First Class on July 7, 1919. After returning home he was again employed by the Railroad as a Materials Clerk.
In 1920 he married Cecilia Fosley in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Two different dates are found for their marriage, March 29th and November 29th. In the 1920 Census both of them list their marital status as single, so perhaps the first date might be that of a marriage license being issued. The family believes that they were married in the Catholic Church but so far no records have been found indicating that Joseph was a widower or that his first marriage was anulled or that he and Cecilia were married in the Church.
Together Joseph and Cecilia had four children, Cecilia (Toody), Jack, Richard, and Patricia, who were all born in Washington. Joseph lived in Spokane, Washington for the rest of his life.
Joseph passed away in Bremerton, Washington and a Rosary was held the next night. The funeral was the day after at 9am at St. Francis Xavier's Church, burial followed at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane.
