Jean Alice Adolfson died at age 94 in La Conner, Washington, on August 21, 2012, where she spent her last years and where she had moved to be nearer to her daughter and husband, Sally and Dennis Massoth. Jean was born April 22, 1918 in Butte, Montana and moved to Seattle with her family as a young child.
During her last years, Jean suffered from the increasingly debilitating effects of Parkinson's Disease, to which she ultimately succumbed. During her last difficult weeks, she was lovingly cared for by the staff at La Conner Retirement Inn and by the local Hospice group, to whom we are immensely grateful.
Jean was preceded in death, 25 years ago, by her husband, Fire Chief Walter Adolfson of the Seattle Fire Department. Jean's death marked the passing of a generation as she was the last remaining member on either side of hers and Walter's families.
She is survived by her two daughters, Sally Manssoth and Jo Ann Nostrand; her grandchildren Michael and Jeffrey Blackinton, John Nostrand, and Suzanne Kalberer; by seven great-grandchildren; and by five nieces and nephews. Jean's memory will be carried on in the hearts of all who loved her.
A memorial service was held at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Sunday, August 26, with relatives traveling from as far as the East Coast, Oregon, and Olympic Peninsula, and the San Juans to celebrate her life.
Donations in Jean's memory would be gratefully received by the Skagit Hospice Services in Mount Vernon.
