Mildred C. (Manning) Asbell, 89, of Paducah, went home to be with the Lord on February 20, 2012, when she died peacefully in her sleep at home.
She was a strong, independent business woman, long before it was the norm for women to be self-employed. Mildred owned and operated her own beauty shop, Fashion Beauty Salon, here in Paducah for 26 years. An avid gardener, she had an affinity for flowers, day lilies in particular, yet found beauty in plants of all kinds. Mrs. Asbell had been a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for 47 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan Garrett of Atlanta, GA; son, Charles Franklin "Frankie" Asbell of Paducah, KY; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, a sister, Rubye Wood, of Paducah, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Raymond Asbell; son Robert A. Asbell and one grandson, Christopher Darrel Hulen.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm Saturday at the Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Jamie Broome officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm Saturday at the church. Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah is in charge of arrangements.
