On October 15, 1950, she was united in marriage with LeRoy Adelmund. They made their home in Parkersburg after LeRoy got out of the service.
She worked at Kyhl Chevrolet as a bookkeeper for several years which later was known as Badger Chevrolet. After retirement, she had a part-time job at A-P schools in the kitchen. She also worked several years sorting corn.
Alma Jean was a member of the United Methodist Church in Parkersburg. She centered her life around her family. She loved attending all of her daughters and granddaughters activities. She liked watching the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes on TV. She also enjoyed golfing, bowling, Minnesota vacations, casinos and having coffee with friends.
Alma Jean passed away Friday, September 6, 2013 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City from complications following surgery. She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Adelmund, one granddaughter, Britni Oldenburger; her brother, Alvin Brown and her parents.
Alma Jean is survived by three daughters, Sheila (Mark) Claassen of Parkersburg, IA, Marsha Swanson of Waterloo, IA and Brenda (Noel) Oldenburger of Parkersburg, IA; five granddaughters, Sarah Williams (Tony Shelton), Tracy (Joe) Neymeyer, Jennifer (Chris) Aswegan, Shalee (Dan) Torrence and Molly (Justin) Cordes; seven great grandchildren, Terrace Williams, Tate, Adria and Troy Neymeyer, Johnathan Aswegan, Kaylen and Colton Torrence and baby girl Cordes on the way.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at Parkersburg United Methodist Church with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Parkersburg.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday at Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg, (319)346-1534 and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
