Birth: Mar. 25, 1918
Death: Dec. 23, 2010

ARMSTRONG, RUTH ELZABETH- Ruth Armstrong was welcomed into the arms of God on December 23, 2010. She was born March 25, 1918, and spent her entire life living in the Horton area. Ruth graduated from Horton High school in 1936. After graduation Ruth attended a short course in Home Economics at Michigan State University and worked for the Kent-Moore Corporation in Jackson. She is survived by her husband John "Jack" Armstrong of 68 years. Ruth is also survived by her five children, Margaret (Wayne) Schuette, Michael (Susan), Catherine Christensen, Martha (Jeff) Kinzel, and David (Michelle) and her cat Ike. Ruth was the oldest of seven children born to Cecil and Essie Rainey, and was preceded in death by Gifford, Duane (Dine), and Phillip. Surviving her are brothers Robert (Tim), David, and sister Barbara (Renner). Ruth was a loving and caring mother, who dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker. She was active in the community as a member of the Hanover-Horton Lions Club and the Hanover -Horton Garden Club. Ruth was an avid gardener, who loved having her hands "in the dirt." Her favorite season was spring because it is a season of renewal and rebirth. Nothing made her happier than to see a new little plant pushing up through the soil. Ruth was an accomplished seamstress and worked for several years at Jo Ann Fabrics (House of Fabrics). Being a survivor of the depression gave her a great sense of thrift and the need to be a good steward of the land. Some of her loves were square dancing, nature, cats, feeding and watching birds. Those loves were naturally extended to her family. She is also survived by, and will be greatly missed by her grandchildren John, Robert, Rebekah (Fitts) and Jennifer (Ferrell ) Schuette, Sean and Ian Armstrong, Aleksandr and Niko Thomas, John and James Kinzel and Nate and Josh Armstrong, and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Hillside United Methodist Church, 6100 Folks Road, Horton, MI. Interment Horton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials may be made to the Hanover Horton Lions Club, or the Hillside United Methodist Church, Horton, MI 49246. Visitation will be held on Monday at the Watson Funeral Chapel from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m.
