SHREWSBURY TWP. Floyd R. "Barney" Duerr, 81, of Barley Townhouse, York, formerly of the Hametown area of Shrewsbury Township, entered into rest Friday, April 4, 2008, at Manor Care South following a brief illness.
He was the husband of Lois Rae (Kisiner) Duerr with whom he celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on October 25, 2008.
Mr. Duerr was born August 27, 1926, in Shrewsbury, a son of the late Lloyd C. and Mary E. (Snyder) Duerr.
He retired in 1988 from Rutter's Dairy where he was a truck driver for over 10 years. Prior to that he owned and operated, along with his brother, James Duerr, Duerr Brother's Trucking Co. in Shrewsbury for many years.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, serving in Germany and Japan. Mr. Duerr was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, where he served as a Deacon and on the Cemetery Committee.
He enjoyed golfing and had a hole-inone at Pleasant View Golf Course in Stewartstown. He was also a collector of golf memorabilia and a Tiger Woods fan.
In addition to his wife, Barney leaves two sons, Richard Lee Duerr of Millsboro, Del., and Ronald Ray Duerr of Hanover; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Bernice Wagner of York; and three brothers, James "Sonny" Duerr of Shrewsbury, Robert A. Duerr of York, and Jack S. Duerr of Glen Rock. He was a godfather to Kim Duerr Davidson. He was predeceased by two sisters, Caroline Duerr and Lois J. Wagner.
Burial will be in Giesey Memorial Cemetery, Shrewsbury, with military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
