Obituary: Shirley Mae Alexander, 56, Upper Tract, died Nov. 19, 1998, at her home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Alexander was born Dec. 31, 1941, at Franklin and was a daughter of Vergie Hartman Simmons of Pendleton Nursing Home, Franklin, and the late Joseph A. Simmons.
She was employed at the Hanover Shoe Company, Franklin, for 31 years and was a 20-year-member of the Upper Tract Rescue Squad. She was a member of the South Mill Creek Church of the Brethren.
On Nov. 9, 1964, she married Walter Alexander, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Jeannie Alexander, Franklin and Shirley Estes and Karen Smith, both of Upper Tract; two sons, Junior Alexander, Marlinton, and Jeffrey Alexander, Upper Tract; four brothers, Reford Simmons, Lacy Simmons, George Simmons and Perry Simmons, all of Franklin; five sisters, Guilda Meadows, Vermilion, OH, Velma Lantz, Judy Simmons and Bonnie Davis, all of Franklin, and Sally George, Riverton; seven grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren.
Pastor Otis "Buzz" Weatherholt conducted the funeral at 2 p.m. Sunday at the South Mill Creek Church of the Brethren. Burial was in Alexander Cemetery near Mozer by Kimble Funeral Home, Franklin.
Members of the Upper Tract escue Squad conducted a memorial service at 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
