Dr. Harold Samuel Agnew, 90, Arcadia, died Aug. 7, 2003. He was born March 29, 1913, in Emsworth, Pa., and came to Arcadia in 1947 from Pennsylvania. He owned and operated a medical practice for more than 42 years in Arcadia. He served several times as chief of staff at DeSoto Memorial Hospital, from 1957 to 1976. He was president of DeSoto-Hardee-Glades County Medical Society in 1956, 1968, 1971 and 1977. He was De- Soto County Medical Examiner from 1980 to 1985, and was a member of the 50-Year Club of American Medicine in 1988. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1937. He played the trumpet in the University of Pittsburgh Marching Band. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, serving as a captain and flight surgeon. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Arcadia, and served on its board of directors.
Survivors include a son, George of Punta Gorda; sisters Anne of Pittsburgh, Gertrude A. Bound of LaPlace, La., and Florence A. Forte of Verona, Pa.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ponger-Kays- Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia. There will be military honors at the graveside, with private burial in Joshua Creek Cemetery in Arcadia.
