Bill Bailey, a native of the Glades, has died at the age of 67 from Melanoma that resulted in Brain Cancer. He died at Hospice, West Palm Beach, Tuesday night, August 3,1999.

Mr. Bailey was a real estate broker and also worked for the tax collector's office. He was elected to the Belle Glade City Commission and the Palm Beach County Commission. He was committed to excellence in government. During his 8 years as County Commissioner from 1976-1984, he served on the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council; Solid Waste Authority; was a member of the Palm Beach County Area Planning Board and served as President of the Palm Beach Municipal League.

His accomplishments were the establishment of the Senior Citizens Center in the Glades; the Duncan Padgett Park near Pahokee; secured the land and financing for the development of Pioneer Park and Bill Bailey's Back Nine of the Municipal Golf Course. He was also instrumental in the building of the Animal Regulation Facility and helped secure 2 million dollars for a new Palm Beach County Health Department.

Mr. Bailey served his country by joining the Army in the Korean Conflict. His name is synonymous with involvement. He served on the Belle Glade Chamber of Commerce Board and the Vestry of St. John's Episcopal Church.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Armstrong (Administrative Assistant to Commissoner Tony Masilotti) of West Palm Beach; daughter Lisa Basore of Wellington; Daughter Traci Owens of Clewiston and Son, Stuart Bailey of Wellington; three Granddaughters, Noelle Basore, Sydney Owens and Haidyn Owens; one Grandson, Garrett Bailey; and his sister, Joy Payne of St. Cloud, Florida.

Funeral services will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, in Belle Glade, on Friday, August 6, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at the Foreverglades Mausoleum, Belle Glade.

The family will receive friends at the Mixson Funeral Home, 2296 S. East Palm Beach Road, Belle Glade, on Thursday evening, August 5, 1999, between the hours of 6-8p.m.
