A lifelong farmer in Huntington County, George C. Allen, 85, of rural Huntington, died at 9:36 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, at Peabody Retirement Center in North Manchester.
Mr. Allen also drove a school bus for the Huntington County Community Schools for 17 years and in 1999 was honored as a 50-year member in the Amity Masonic Lodge #483 F&AM in Huntington. He was a member in the Royal Arch #27 in Huntington, the Commandry #35 in Huntington, the Floral Chapter of the Eastern Star and the Majenica Conservation Club. He attended the Markle United Methodist Church.
Born Oct. 23, 1919, in Huntington County to Delmer G. and Lillian E. Craig Allen, his marriage was to Alice E. Simon on March 11, 1945, in Jackson Township. She survives.
Additional survivors include four sons, Tom L. Allen of Hicksville, Ohio; John C. Allen of Warren; Steven C. Allen of Huntington; and David L. Allen of Geneva; a daughter, Mrs. Ron (Sue Ann) Horrell of Huntington; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Babcock, and three grandchildren.
Calling hours are today from 2-8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Glancy Funeral Homes - H. Brown & Son Chapel in Warren. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Kaye Patton officiating. Burial will be at the Masonic Cemetery in Warren. There will be a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. today by Amity Masonic Lodge #483 F&AM.
Preferred memorials are to the Markle United Methodist Church.
