BRITTON.óDied, on Sunday night, 7th February, at his plantation on Choppee Creek, Georgetown County, S. C., Captain T. Nelson Britton, aged about eighty years. Captain Britton belonged to a large and respectable family, scattered about in Williamsburg and Georgetown Counties. He was a man of Good mind, clear convictions and strong character. The writer of this had the pleasure of living near him on Choppee Creek for several years. He was one of the best neighbors in the world. Whatever he had to eat he would divide it with you in the most free-hearted and generous manner. If he had confidence in you and professed to be your friend, he would stick to you to the last cent in his pocket and the last drop of blood in his body. You could get up the darkest night that ever fell and know exactly where to find him. When the war began between the States he was about fifty years old, but he went into the Tenth South Carolina and remained until his health failed and compelled him to come home. He was a member of Union Church. Brother Durant, his pastor, visited him during his last sickness and found him in peace with God and calmly waiting for his summons to the presence of his Heavenly Master. He leaves a large family of sons and daughters.
Thos. Mitchell.
