Struthers - Daniel Ciccone, 78, of Struthers, died Wednesday morning at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
Dan was born February 10, 1931 in Lowellville, a son of Venanzio and Lucia Battaglina Ciccone. He was raised in Lowellville and came to Struthers in 1964.
A 1949 graduate of Lowellville High School, Dan served 5 years in the United States Navy and 4 years with the United States Air Force.
Dan worked for 18 years as a general foreman at Youngstown Sheet & Tube, Campbell Works. From there he went to Brier Hill Works as a general foreman. He was then sent to Crucible Steel Plant in Midland, PA., to restart the plant for Lykes Corp., which later became J&L Specialties Steel. He retired in March 1989 after 30 years of service.
Dan loved spending time with his family, and his cat Muffin, and loved working in his garden. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed his "Friday" golf group. He was also a member of the Buckeye Golf League at Reserve Run Golf Course, where he made his "famous" Hole-in-One.
Dan was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers.
Besides his wife Janet, whom he married August 25, 1959, Dan leave five sons, Dan (Kathryn) Ciccone of Tampa FL, David (Cindy) Ciccone, and Vince Ciccone both of Struthers, Dean (Nanci) Ciccone of Austintown and Donald (Megan) Ciccone of Poland; nine grandchildren, Brianne, Mariah, Dalton, Sarah, Matthew, Alannah, Michael, Nicholas and Natalie; two sisters, Linda Docherty of Lowellville and Antoinette Owens of Huntingtown, MD; and one brother Richard (Shirley) Ciccone of Struthers.
Besides is parents, Dan was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Ciccone and Tony Ciccone; a sister, Rose Morocco; and two brothers-in-law John Docherty and Jim Owens.
